When Flowers Were In Bloom

When flowers were
in full bloom,
I saw you.
You were more beautiful
than any blossom
in any garden,
in any city,
in any state,
in any continent,
in any planet,

You were more beautiful --

When wildflowers sweetened
the bee laden days,
and sudden northern winds
blew those strange Saturdays
into so many lost Sundays,
I danced like a dervish
whirling, whirling
till flames burned
above my head.

And though I offered days
of bells and honey,
your heart walked
down a narrow road
to a temple in the east
never  to return --
I lost myself.

And in evening light,
I sat in a pasture
with a thousand bluebells
and waited for the stars,
and the cosmos dark daggers
shredded my heart,
and I hung naked
on the North Star
and wept --

Still,
I thought,
You were more beautiful
than any blossom
in any garden,
in any city,
in any state,
in any continent,
in any planet,

You were more beautiful --

The sweetness of that first love is so huge, rich and all consuming and you know you will never, ever see such beauty again. Love holds you in thrall and you lose yourself in these feelings. What happened? You don't understand where that love went or when her heart began to wander from you, but now her heart is gone and she's forgotten her vows. How sad; sitting, waiting and finally, finally coming to the realization that your love is lost forever. Now all you do is sit and remember that first love and you know that even now God's beauty cannot compare to hers.
Wow! I probably felt this wrong, but it definitely brought up some strong feelings. First, feelings of love and excitement so strong that it isn't possible that only you can be feeling them, then come the feelings of betrayal and hurt so deep that you know you'll never live through them and then comes the waiting and hoping in vain, until it finally hits you...it's over.
Now you sit and remember with fondness and sometimes with a twinge of sadness as well...and still as you look up at God's beauty you know that even that cannot compare with hers.
Okay, I probably got it wrong, but I have to say that this is one powerful poem that invokes some really powerful images.
    Very,very good job big brother!!

    This is spectacular.
the way you paint with your words, the depth
    of feeling invoked by subtlety.
    the spiritual, metaphysical, just incredible.
Now I have to add YOU to my regular reading list.
I am glad you enjoyed my writing. There is lots of it! I look forward to future commentary from a writer I respect.
    Blessings,

This was gorgeous! This stanza really spoke to me:
"And though you laid with me,
    your heart walked
    down a narrow road
to a temple in the east
    never to return,
    and I denied the ghost,
    lost my//self --"
    Thank you!

  20. I read this again big brother and it was as wonderful the second and third time. Each word paints a vivid picture and brings the senses into it as well. I can see the sky with the stars and moon shining so brightly and feel the night breeze as it ruffles my hair and the grass beneath my feet feels so cool and sleek as I dance wildly to music only I can hear. The hurt throbs in my heart and my chest while my poor head pounds from the tears I've shed.

Each time I read this the image was different, but just as powerful. I hope to see more of your work and quite soon. Praying blessings on you.
